Career Transition

Always bespoke. Adept at identifying the possibilities.

Your values. Your aspirations. Your future.

Transitions happen at every stage of your career. But whether you’re just starting out, somewhere in the middle, or contemplating your third act, they can feel uncomfortable, unsettling and uncertain.

So, we help you lean into the discomfort and reframe the uncertainty. Because discomfort and uncertainty are just the precursors to possibility.

From Unsettled to Excited

We ask the right questions

Whatever your career stage, and whatever the nature of your transition, the right questions can be uncomfortable. And tension is inevitable when you are feeling uncomfortable, unsettled and uncertain about what the future holds. But the right questions are your pathway to the possibilities, and they have their genesis in what you tell us about the kind of future you imagine. Who you are. What you stand for. What your strengths are. And your values. The future you want. And how it fits into your life, at whatever stage you’re at. You’ve got this.

We challenge your responses

We challenge you to dig deep. To be honest with yourself about what’s possible, but in a big thinking “that’d be incredible” kind of way. We don’t want you to set limits just because you’re scared or because it seems too hard. We’ll figure that out together, but we want all the possibilities on the table. For now. And we will interrogate the tension between your competing values and aspirations. Because that’s how we help you figure out what is truly important to you. You may struggle differentiating between what you think you should want and what you actually want. But our role is to help you navigate that tension, with clarity, curiosity and courage.

We re-write your future together

Questions and answers are where we start; the building blocks, or compass, that will support and guide you towards your aspirations for the future. They are the framework we use to support you to design and build your unique transition. One that leans into your strengths and is underpinned by your values. A transition that you’re sure about because of the investment you’ve made in building it from the ground up. With us, in a safe place, creating your own unique pathway to the future you imagine.

CAREER TRANSITION

Our Approach

We want to help you paint a picture of the career you imagine. What that next step looks and feels like. And we mean it when we say we’ll encourage you to think big in a “that’d be incredible” kind of way. What will be different? How will it feel? How will you know?

And because we’re not wedded to any pre-determined formulae or ways of working, you can forget everything you’ve ever heard about out-placement and other modes of transition support. We will listen deeply and use everything at our disposal to question, explore, interrogate, introduce and connect our way to the future you’re imagining. We promise to challenge you, in a safe place, where you can explore your possibilities (including the red herrings) without judgement.

Whether you’re contemplating a leadership role right where you are, jumping off to somewhere new (or unknown) and onboarding in a brave new world or on-ramping after a period of leave or working abroad, you’ve got this. And we’ve got you.

What our clients are saying

The Many Faces of Career Transition

Career transitions come in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes the next step is (kind of) clear, but other times it’s completely opaque. Here are just a few stories from career transitions past:

L always wanted to be a lawyer. She was the consummate high achiever and was rewarded with the full linear experience at one of the very best firms in the country. From summer clerk to Senior Associate, the years zoomed by and suddenly she was on the cusp of 30, and wondering if this was all there was. She had to figure out whether to step off that safe linear pathway to see what else was out there. And although there were lots of possibilities, that should have felt exciting, all she felt was an enormous sense of dread. Nevertheless, that seemed like a great place to start.

K was in the prime of his career when the unimaginable happened. He was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Overnight, all that mattered to him was getting well, and having a chance at a tomorrow. But once he recovered, the idea of returning to the professional life he left behind didn’t feel quite right, regressive even, and he wondered what the alternatives might look like. He hadn’t landed on an answer, but he wanted to sit with what might be possible. So that’s where we started.

E had worked in professional services firms his whole life and had been a partner at his current firm for more than two decades. The partners whom he admired and with whom he had worked in the early stages of his career had mostly retired, and it occurred to him that he was at a critical stage of his own career. He was no longer the all-powerful figure he had once been, and although he felt no different to his young self, his reflection told him otherwise. He felt deeply vulnerable, and unsure about how to navigate his future. If he wasn’t a partner of his firm, who was he?
