E was on the cusp of promotion to partner at an elite consulting firm but wasn’t sure she wanted it. She thought she should want it. Who wouldn’t? But something was off. Her values became more important than ever. What was negotiable and what wasn’t? Figuring out what mattered most became her mission.
D was in the sweet spot of mid-career; safe, senior and successful, yet he was restless. Not one, but two, search firms were pursuing him, with two very different opportunities. He was flattered, so he pursued the process, with both. But then came crunch time. He had to choose. Between both. And each role had its own unique pros and cons and played to his (different) strengths. So, where should he land? And how would each option position him for his long game?
M had been back in Australia for less than a year, after 5 years in an elite law firm abroad. She was exceptional. Yet she was surprised when she was put on the partnership track almost immediately, with a 12-month runway. The pressures of juggling the personal and professional challenges of repatriation, from reconnecting with family and friends and building a life back home to getting her head around the dynamics of her new firm and the idiosyncrasies of the local market, was a lot. She felt exhausted. And stuck. Would it be the end of the world if she took a beat? And doubled her runway to partnership?
