Facilitation

Always bespoke. Responsive to your end game.

Walking the tightrope with poise, judgement and wisdom.

Knowing when silence is powerful, and when it needs to be broken.

Excellent facilitation delivers on your brief. Whatever that looks like. It can turn everything on its head, reveal pathways and possibilities and create more “aha” moments and unexpected “hot takes” than you thought possible. It can bring people together.

That’s why we invest in everyone at the table and in the room. From the vocal and confident who contribute with ease, to the quiet and circumspect who may need encouragement. Because no-one has a monopoly on good ideas.

Facilitation from the Tightrope

We start with the end in mind

We always start with the end in mind. And we help you figure that out before we even start. What does great look like, or terrible, and why? We can ask the questions others may be afraid to ask, because that’s our job. So, once we start, we have a shared understanding of why we’re there and what we’re trying to achieve. That investment up front pays dividends down the track and is absolutely worth the effort.

We bring independence and fresh eyes

We bring an independent lens and fresh eyes to the table, and we’re unencumbered by the challenges and politics and other obstacles that may exist within a team or an organisation. We also bring our experience of every facilitation that came before, and leverage that experience for your benefit.

We ensure breadth of contribution

We believe that breadth of contribution delivers better outcomes. So, we invest in everyone at the table or in the room, from the vocal and confident who contribute with ease, to the quiet and circumspect who may need some encouragement. We make sure many voices are heard because we know that no one person has a monopoly on good ideas (despite what they may think). Our approach delivers higher quality outcomes, as well as a heightened sense of contribution and satisfaction among participants.

What our clients are saying

This is Not Our First Rodeo

Our facilitation engagements are always unique, and never boring, putting us in the centre of everything from group planning days to navigating tricky dynamics within teams. Here are just some of the stories from facilitations past:

Two practice groups in a professional services firm were being bolted together because of an expansion and amalgamation of their related work areas. This meant there were two leaders with different work styles who were now co-leading the larger group. The enlarged practice group had been operating for some months, but people were unhappy and there was tension because of different styles and culture and ways of working. Everyone knew there was an elephant in the room, but no one wanted to talk about it. Until they did.

A cohort of around 20 elite scientists, all women, from across Australia worked together on a range of research projects but rarely came together as a group. Historically, they had attended off the shelf professional development programs and conference-style events, sometimes together, none of which were designed with them or their unique needs in mind. They were time poor and felt like these events were a waste of their time, which was precious. They asked us if we could help. So, we spent a lot of time asking questions to figure out what great (and terrible) looked like for them and built something from the ground up. We designed and curated a “year of development” which included an in-person event that featured a range of diverse experts and professionals who stretched and challenged and engaged them in new and interesting ways, and we supported them individually throughout the year with one-on-one developmental coaching. The benefits of the program continue to ripple through their community despite the end of the year of development. And we remain forever connected.

A university wanted to support the careers and professional development of its women early career researchers. It became clear that despite the academics experiencing similar challenges and having (broadly) similar career aspirations, they couldn’t share their collective wisdom because each discipline was a silo, and they were very disconnected. We developed a model that brought together the academics, across disciplines and seniority, so that they could share their experience, learn together and contribute their unique lens to the development circle and the issues and ideas we shared and discussed. The relationships that were built because of this initiative lead to a new iteration of development for academic women Australia-wide, led by a handful of the original participants who wanted to build on what we started together. The rest is history.
